As the western countries are discussing about refugees and the causes for the worldwide migration I came across a blog post I wrote some years ago when the Syrian crisis started. Meanwhile millions have fled their home country; back then I have met the forst several thousands in Zaatari refugee camp in Jordan. Read what some of them told me when we met.
TSBN | 3. Juli 2016 Scotland wants to stay in the EU. Meanwhile, young people iall over England are playing democracy. They did not raise their voices ahead of the referendum. Nor did they participate in countable numbers in pro-EU groups. Now they are protesting in their thousands, not only in London, on- as well as offline. They did not vote by ballot but by emotion. And they immaturely thought that would be enough. Too many of them however missed the opportunity to really make a difference. Hard to imagine that the outcome of the Britisch referendum will be changed, despite all the protests now even though the referendum results are constitutionally not binding for Westminster.
This week the Holy Month for the Muslims begins. It is a couple of years ago that Yasir explained Ramadan in Islamabad to me. We met in a small guesthouse where I stayed at the time. He was doing the night shift. I asked him a lot, and he taught me a lot. So I learned from him, besides other things, how to practise Ramadan, the Holy Month for the Muslims.
TSBN | 18 March 2016 The Syrian war is entering its sixth year. Millions of refugees, torn between hope and dispair. Hundreds of thousands of killed people, innocent mostly, victims of a barbaric fight. I have met Syrian refugees in the early stage of this war in the refugee cam Zaatari in Jordan, back in 2012. Read here about one of my many ecounters. The numbers have changed since, the reality stays.
